About

Rachel Funk is a multidisciplinary artist currently working in ceramics, fiber arts, cyanotype, and oil painting to create playful and captivating works of art and craft. Born in southeastern Idaho and raised in central Kansas, Rachel's artistic journey has been shaped by a rich tapestry of landscapes and experiences, which she channels into her diverse bodies of work.


Rachel holds a Bachelor of Fine Art in Ceramics with an Art History certification from South Dakota State University. Her academic background, range of experiences, and fondness for never taking herself too seriously has laid the foundation for her artistic interests and various bodies of work.


As the executive director of and an instructor at the Brookings Arts Council, Rachel plays a pivotal role in fostering artistic expression within her communities. Through monthly gallery shows featuring independent artists, group exhibitions, and student work at the BAC she enjoys talking with emerging artists and cultivating a vibrant space for all to experiment with art.


Rachel resides in Sioux Falls with her partner, a photographer and screen printer, alongside a collection of houseplants and a spirited chihuahua named Lola. Inspired by her surroundings and the connections she shares with loved ones, Rachel continues to play and experiment in her artistic practice, inviting audiences to join her on a journey of discovery, joyfulness, and change.
